BOINC CPU Benchmark problem

Over the last few months, when BOINC runs the CPU benchmarks on my laptop, the results have been getting worse, meaning lower. What is going on and what does this mean?

How bad is it? Did you install any services that eat up resources? Or did you change power settings?

I didn't change anything, but, as I mentioned in the other forum section in a posting to you, I downloaded the most recent version of BOINC when alerted to in the program. After I installed it, the benchmark numbers came back to where they should be, so I don't know what was wrong.
