yoyo hat geschrieben: thanks for your tests. It seems that win2000 is not supported by ecm.
You're welcome.

However, I tried to confirm this and installed Windows XP Home 32bit inside VMware on the Win2000 system, where ecm has crashed earlier. I took the same test folder and it crashed again in an instant (see attached picture). The out file was empty again. :o

Just to make sure it's not the fact that the application was running inside a virtual machine, I copied this virtual machine to the system with Win XP Home already installed and an AMD Athlon 64 cpu and started it there with VMware Player. On this second computer the ecm application ran fine (same as earlier on the host OS itself).

So from my side it does not seem that Win2000 is to blame here. :confused:

It would be great IMHO if other users could give it a try, too. Either doing a test on another Athlon XP (or earlier cpu) or on a Win2000 system, whatever is available.

To finish the cross-checking I will install and run Win2000 also as a virtual machine on the Win XP Home host with Athlon 64. If ecm will run there, too, I strongly suspect the processor and not the OS of being the reason for the crash of ecm. I'll post these results a little later today.

Regards
Alex

P.S: yoyo, do you need the out files of the successful runs?

The fog is lifting a bit further:

ecm does not run on Athlon XP with Windows 98 SE running in a virtual machine (host OS is Win 2000)
ecm does run on Athlon 64 with Windows 98 SE running in a virtual machine (host OS is Win XP 32bit)

EDIT:
ecm does not run on Athlon XP with Windows 2000 running in a virtual machine (host OS is Win 2000) :wink: - not surprising anymore
ecm does run on Athlon 64 with Windows 2000 running in a virtual machine (host OS is Win XP 32bit)

No more screenshots here, I think you got the picture :wink: ecm is crashing without delay on the Athlon XP, the out file is empty.

So the OS support from the Applications page appears to be correct (at least when running standalone).

Four valid result finished with the 64bit windows application today:

resultid=2112595
resultid=2112591
resultid=2111324
resultid=2111323

According to Windows task manager it is a true 64bit program. Some other projects are sending 32bit programs for the 64bit platform, so I think this is noteworthy. It also appears to be faster than the 32bit flavour, so it might benefit from 64bit.

I also noticed that the file name ecm621_win64_core2.exe has a reference to the Intel Core series of processors again (see my above post).

Alex

The factor with 47 digits was found by Berserk_Tux and Nullinger

The factor with 51 digits was found by Woodman

There were also a lot of smaller factors found by a couple of participiants.

I think that trend will continue. Oddperfect is only run by a very small amount of volunteers.

Hallo zusammen,

At first my System:
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Brisbane
Ubuntu 8.10x68 64bit (interpred)
installed Boinc Manager: 6.2.12
2 GB RAM

After Downloading the ecm-WU's i get the fellowing error:
Can't Rename the ECM-File (Details i can't discribe)
After this, i have compute errors and the WU's aborted.

Here some links:

At last, sorry for my bad english.

Best regards

The applikation could not be renamed by Boinc. In both cases it was Boinc 6.2.12. A 3rd computer completed this wu on Vista with Boinc 6.3.
I think it is a bug in Boinc. You should upgrade to a stable version.

For the records: ecm does not run on an Intel Pentium III (w/ Windows 2000) either. This CPU also lacks support for SSE2 and all later extensions. Same error as described above with the Athlon XP.

Also tried it on a K6-III, which is a 586-class cpu, again w/ Windows 2000. On this one ecm does not crash but simply refuses to run (returning to the command prompt without error or message).

I should use the separate preferences for home/school/work in the future, to exclude those older processors from running ecm.

But for the next days I will focus on evo and try to get my first bronze badge... *grin*

Alex

I install the latest stable Client Version 6.4.5 and the ECM-WU's works fine. It was the pre-released installed Client from the Software-Packag, that they produced this Error.
THX for Help.
