RNAWorld GRaphics Problem

#1 Ungelesener Beitrag von sorceress » 04.08.2010 14:58

My Norton SONAR has quarantined the RNA file: graphics_0.06_windows_intex86.exe. for suspicious behavior. Is this a virus or problem with the code? Anyone having this problem? Can I restore the file and run it safely?

You can check quarantaine and restore the file. Better to exclude BOINC directory from scan and realtime protection.

Thanks for the reply. My question is still about this file being safe to run. Norton SONAR is for my protection so that I dont run files that can damage my computer. The file is doing something it shouldnt. I'm not having any probelms with the rest of the BOINC files. If this is a normal response for Norton, then I will restore the program and let it run.

This exe runs the graphics of RNA World. So if you want to see the graphic, you need it. If you do not want to see the graphic you doesn't need it. It should not have any influence in running the workunits. But Boinc will miss this file in any download request and will donwload it again and again and again and .......

And in general: RNA World does not deliver any malicious code. The problem lies in the virus scanners (and specifically in Norton) which frequently report false positives. Still, it is always good to contact us in case you observe something like this. :D

Thanks Micheal and Yoyo. I allowed the file to run. I am regularly getting hacked and I'm very cautious when Norton says something fishy is going on. I haven't had it complain with any of the other projects files but this one. Thank you for being patient with me. I didnt feel there would be a problem but I did want to ck with you. It's good to see admins who care about their user enough to stay in touch and answer our question. I'm good to go now :)

Michael.

You could probably contact the virus guys so they can modify their recognition. "Malicious behaviour" is most likely caused by something they call "generic recognition", not by a virus pattern.

Yes. Only a few days ago, I had to notify the TV Browser guys that AntiVir detects their software as a virus. It also reported a virus signature for that program but was again a false positive.
