ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
Task ogr_090201074003_13_0. How long does it take to crunch it with 2.8 GHz Pentium D and 2 gigabytes of RAM? Does it support checkpointing? The percentage meter is not working, though it has crunched almost 3 hours by now. Should I abort it?

It has checkpoints, round about every 15min. If the dnet prozess still uses cpu time you should proceed.

Thanks! It seems to work.yoyo hat geschrieben:It has checkpoints, round about every 15min. If the dnet prozess still uses cpu time you should proceed.

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
I have the same question. I am new to yoyo, lastnight, but I have seen, with another project on linux, WUs appear to be crunching--per top, but do nothing, zero fraction done after 30+hrs, i.e., to the point it clear a problem existed. killing the process would usually solve the problem, but was annoying. problem solved with optimized apps, I think crunch3r's.
I killed the processes but still no evidence these WUs are crunching minus what dnetc process indicates which, again, I found an unreliable source. it is my experience, if the fraction_done is not increasing, then it likely not crunching.
however, because I am so very green to both yoyo@home and the ps3, I will let this run. how long should I let a WU run before trying to kick-start it on a ps3?
dotsch app for ps3/ydl6.1. and this observation, no progress, applies to both processes.
NOTE: very open to recommendations that help get the most out of this ps3
thanks.

Don't know what you installed, but a 30h running ogr on a PS3 seems much to long. You should install Linux and Boinc on the PS3 as described here http://www.ps3grid.net/join.php?sys=ps3 and you should switch cpu throttling off.

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
yoyo,
thanks for the help.
1. you were correct, one of the WUs finished. it did not indicate progress at any point.
2. the 30+hr example was from a previous project. that can be disregarded.
I installed ydl61 per instruction but the machine is poky. not impressed with this pairing, at all, but I probably did something to junk it. I am reviewing what I possibly did to through a wrench in the works.
I am not sure what you mean by cpu throttling, boinc or ps3 configuration. does ps3 have an accessible bios?
any hints or recommendations very welcome.
thanks.

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
CPU throttling is a Boinc configuration which you can set here:
http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/prefs.php?subset=global
yoyo
http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/prefs.php?subset=global
It should be set to 100%Use at most: 100 percent of CPU time

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
yoyo,
okay, I remember. my initial install was based on that page, you noted, and is what I did, the first time, but then I rec'd a message that I used the wrong link--the link provided on that page. additionally, I noticed that that boinc calls just one crunching process. I had researched and knew of dotsch's ps3 dual-like implementation.
my question: should I have a two crunching processes with the boinc client posed in the link you provided?
if not, does it matter which way I go? obviously, I prefer to have two crunching processes.
has anyone a good idea what I can expect either way?
thanks.

If you want to have the full power of the PS3 in use, means all PPE and SPE, you should have only ONE crunching process!

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
yoyo,
what the heck? one process crunching is better than two crunching processes which, on the surface, mimics dual core?
please forgive my monkeyness as I have no idea how a ps3 works, so would you please explain what is going on when one dnetc crunching process is out doing two concurrent dnetc processes--that is how I take your message. please, correct me if I am wrong.
I appreciate your tolerance and help.
thanks.

Re: ogr_090201074003_13_0 should I abort?
The dnet process itself uses all PS3 processors. If you run more than one of them they will block all SPE's and run only on the single PPE.
