This project is finished.
The SETI@home project (now known as SETI@home classic, Search for Extra terrestrial Intelligence) was conducted at the University of California, [1]. It was looking for possible extraterrestrial civilizations. These were the data of a radio telescope in Arecibo (Google Map).
The core idea is that other non-human civilizations also emit radio waves through their techniques. The data recorded by the radio telescope consists mainly of noise, in which possible artificial signals are almost lost. To find these possible signals, therefore, lengthy calculations are necessary, which should be distributed here on many computers.
Since 2003, there has been a successor project under BOINC, which initially ran parallel to SETI@home Classic, but replaced it on 15 December 2005.
