Rechenkraft.net e.V. ist der weltweit erste und größte gemeinnützige Verein, der sich das Thema Distributed Computing auf die Fahnen geschrieben hat.

Rechenkraft.net (http://www.rechenkraft.net) ist als überregional tätiger gemeinnütziger Verein seit 2005 in Marburg registriert und befasst sich mit dem Thema «distributed computing». Wir möchten Menschen die Idee nahebringen, ihren privaten Computer in den Dienst der Wissenschaft zu stellen, um komplexe wissenschaftliche Fragestellungen gemeinsam zu lösen. Das Prinzip des «distributed computings» beruht auf der Aufteilung einer komplexen Berechnung in kleine Teilaufgaben, die von Clients im Internet bearbeitet und deren Ergebnisse von einem zentralen Server gesammelt werden. Auf diese Weise werden Fragestellungen aus vielfältigen Disziplinen angegangen, wie Wettersimulation (Climate Prediction), Astronomie (Einstein@home), Mathematik (Distributed.net), Proteinfaltung (Folding@home), Proteindesign (Rosetta@home), RNA Biologie (RNA World), Evolutionsbiologie (Evolution@home), Wirkstoffdesign (World Community Grid), Erdebebenregistrierung (Quake Catcher Network).
Rechenkraft.net betreibt zwei eigene derartikge Projekte, Yoyo@home, ein Wrapper-Projekt aus den Bereichen Mathematik, Physik und Evolutionsforschung, und RNA World (RNA Biologie), die wir vorstellen möchten.
