It timed out on December 15th, should not have remained on that machine (could you please confirm this?) unless Internet access is completely inactivated and in that case should not be retrievable.

Server says that the machines last contact date was after the timeout, so I would be surprised if the task is still on the machine.

The task is still running.
Internet is a big issue in my new apartment. T. is too busy to connect the brand new building to the Internet.
But from time to time WiFi from neighbours is good enough to use it.
Edit: Should I kill the task?

You should close BOINC, then save off a copy of the entire BOINC Data Folder, which could possibly be used to resume the task outside of BOINC. Then it is up to the admins whether the BOINC server can undo the timeout, or if you should attempt to complete outside of BOINC (which I could help with).

Would it be possible to move this task to another computer if it is possible to run it outside of BOINC?
I've got a much faster computer running right beside the old laptop.

Yes, using bits from that BOINC Data Folder copy, and I could help, via phone/Skype call. It would of course still be up to the amount whether they would accept it.

Send me a PM with Skype or US phone, and maybe we can do a call shortly if interested.

I think it might be considered unfair towards the user recently working on it to have it finished by someone else, but if it should fail again a properly recovered work-unit might come in quite handy.
I personally feel that it would be a proper solution not to let go of eight months of computation time.

Btw: On PrimeGrid some work-units seem to have been done manually to speed-up the clean-up after some race.
Maybe sending out the remaining tasks to multiple people or have them completed outside of Boinc might be a good idea, as the results would be available sooner and, less people will be frustrated due to lost work.
Gruß, Jens

Obviously as a back-up for the computer which took the resend I decided to relocate the files to my faster computer.
I've duplicated the files in case anything goes wrong and loaded the vbox-file to the VirtualBox Manager.
Do I need to manually load the latest snapshot or is it safe to hit the start button?

You'll need to edit the vbox file for 2 snapshot folder references, to point to a different new folder on the PC, then restore snapshot, then run it, and see if progress.txt gets updated regularly.

I have finally completed my 1st task here! It took "only" 446 CPU days to complete it.
