Re: Long running work unit
Convert all your tasks to fast machines, and you'll see the end of those monsters sooner! ^^

Re: Long running work unit
I only purchase a new PC every 7 years. I don't have the budget to purchase more. Are you offering to purchase me an additional PC?
So, my current set of BOINC PCs involve:
- My 1-yr-old new beast desktop, Speed Racer, i7-5960X
- My 8-yr-old aging beast desktop, Racer-X, i7-965 Extreme
- My 6-yr-old previous-work-laptop, Nitro, i7-740QM
- My wife's 7-yr-old aging laptop, Zathras, i5-520M
My philosophy is:
These monsters have been being bounced around for a couple years, error'ing because most people don't understand that the tasks require a bit of extra care and babysitting.
If I can complete them, even on a lowly laptop that'll take 1-2 years, that will accomplish 3 things:
1) The task gets completed, so admins can use the science.
2) The users who would have failed it, now can utilize their resources for something else that won't result in a failure.
3) I learn about VirtualBox, and RNA World, and have an opportunity to make sure the project is going as smoothly as it can.
So far, I'm obviously seeing a lot of success. I anticipate things might get a bit frustrating as the number of monsters gets smaller, and I run out of RNA World tasks, but we'll see.
Not gonna lie - I'm not doing it for credits or fame. I'm doing it to alleviate the waste of other users' resources. I want their PCs to not have task failures

Re: Long running work unit
...and your hardware parc shows that RNA World runs quite stable on older machines as well.

Re: Long running work unit
I never got one of those although I had a slot for RNA World open for quite a while now.

I can tell you some tricks that will increase your chances of getting a task. If you're serious about tackling a monster, send me a Private Message.

Re: Long running work unit
It is a very long time since I've had any work from RNA, but noticed a work unit here this afternoon. Estimated run time remaining 87d 18:35:32 but with a deadline 22/06/2017.

Re: Long running work unit
As you know, our deadlines are auto-updated according to your system's performance and progress feedback over the internet to our server (it's called trickle-up messages).
Show me another DC project capable of that, please.

Re: Long running work unit
Make sure your PC is able to communicate to the project within every 2 weeks, and the server side deadline will autoextend (even though the client deadline value doesn't)
