Hmmm, the machine is OK, freeing up more cores won't speed things up but the 4000+ hrs really seem VERY long to me. But probably it is just a mis-estimation? To be on the safe side, you might just want to abort that WU.

Computer is a AMD Phenom 8550 x3 core@2.2 ghz 5% oc with 6 gigs RAM@1.6 ghz

Is my machine to slow for this type of WU and I suspended everything else in order to dedicate all 3 cores to some how try and get this WU down in time but to no avail.
I've seen no sign that RNA World workunits are able to use more than one CPU core at the same time. However, you may get a little benefit from leaving one CPU core unused so that the operating system background work can use it instead of sharing one with a workunit.

Is that an XXL workunit? Some of the XXL workunits I've had ran for over a month with no checkpoints except one in the first few minutes. I haven't seen one expected to run for that many hours, but some users have reported some that ran for over 1000 hours.

That would be far over the expected length for an S workunit, though. Those are seldom over 6 hours on the faster CPUs.

I'd suggest letting it run long enough for someone at RNA World to offer a better answer.

This remaining runtime is after the WU ran for 13 hours. I aborted the WU and received new ones.

Task ID 14587144 looks like it will need extra time to finish.

http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/result. ... d=14587144

cms_GA-p[e5-20MB_Lin64f]_1_Gallus-gallus-(chicken)_CM000111.lin.EMBL.RF00028_Intron_gpI_1323120445_42560

It arrived say that it would need about 385 hours to finish, but it's already run about 350 hours and is now saying that it will need about 206 more hours to finish.

Could I have the deadline extended 2 to 3 weeks?

Having the same problem with http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/workuni ... id=5994565, I've completed it but it looks like no one else will.

Perhaps when Mr. Yoyo gets back he could fix this one as well.

It would be a shame to see 972 hrs of crunching go to waste...
This WU seems to have disappeared from my task list, will anything be done about this one or am I going to be SOL.

It would be a shame to lose the credit for such a long WU, the claimed credit was ~30k so it would probably end up being worth over 100k with the bonus.

I completed it fine not sure why I should get penalized just because others can't...

I think the workunit had to many errors and was therefore deleted from the server.

As a result, for the long XXL WUs, the max. error number must be increased significantly.

Another possibility to consider: For the long XXL workunits, don't count "Aborted by user" as an error, or count it as only a small fraction of an error.

Yes. But as so often, the problem does not lie in a lack of ideas to solve the issues but in the options you actually have when bound to BOINC. :roll2:
