Unwelcome behaviour-lack of checkpointing???

#1 Ungelesener Beitrag von vaio » 08.09.2010 22:38

Today my machine hard locked and I had to reboot.
In the course of doing so I lost over 10 days work on my I7.

This evening I performed a Windows update so I suspended the tasks before rebooting.
Upon rebooting and continuing the work units the runtime reset itself to zero on the tasks.

Is this normal behaviour?

This handful of work units has wasted the best part of a fortnight's I7 runtime.

Think it's these:

Unfortunately RNAWorld does not support checkpointing.

We are however still trying to find a viable solution for that particular matter. So far we came up with something close to checkpointing for Linux; unfortunately that solution is NOT supported by Windows. We have - by now - invested quite some time speaking (or for that matter: writing) with some guys at C.E.R.N (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, resp. Organisation Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire), who claim that they found a solution using a virtual maschine (VM).

Even though, we are trying, this problem remains unsolved for the time being.
In answer of your question: Yes, unfortunately, this is normal behavior.

You may try the following:

1. On the project page: Check the option 'Leave application in memory'.
2. Try to use Windows hibernation mode.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Will just put it down to misfortune that my machine happened to play up in the middle of massive work units.
Had they been the little 5 minute wu's I would not have even noticed.

Appreciate the clarification and this incident hasn't put me off: I will just have to plan any reboots etc as best I can to minimise ay losses.
