Re: Calculating task completion estimates

#13 Ungelesener Beitrag von Jacob Klein » 14.08.2016 08:23

So, with Speed's new task, he's now running 8 concurrent RNA World VMs!
I have 16 tasks now! I think my limit is 18.
I'm still looking for 1 more task for Speed, and 1 more task for RacerX.

Things are progressing pretty smoothly.
By my calculations, I have about "5 years CPU time" that is "In Progress".
This pleases me. :)

I moved to a new house, and ... all the tasks survived :)

Also, Speed picked up a new task! He has 9 in progress now, and I'm going to cut him off, since 9*3GB=27GB, he has 32GB RAM, and I want to leave RAM for other tasks. 32 GB was his maximum, but a new BIOS update allows 64 GB RAM max, so... Will be upgrading in a couple weeks.

RacerX now has a third task. This means that ALL MY PCs are FULL (don't have enough RAM or CPU to attempt more).
:) So, now I just wait until the fruit falls from the trees!

Hurray! :) Speed Racer just completed his first Task!! Granted, it was a "small" one (28.7 days), but still, it's great to see one get solved. So, that PC is now looking to take on another task, in order to run 9 concurrently. Once I upgrade his RAM to 64 GB, I'm going to attempt 15 concurrently :) #NotCrazyEnoughYet

RacerX completed a huuuuge (302.7 days!) task recently, and Zathras had another scare where I saw a hd write error in the VM, so I carefully restored a backup copy of the VM.

Speed and RacerX are now looking for 1 more task each, and I'm still in a holding pattern on doubling Speed's memory :)

WOOT! The wife is buying a purse! And she has given me the green light to purchase my own goodie!

Speed is a Dell Area-51 R2, and his CPU is an octo-core, i7-5960X.
At 32GB RAM currently, Speed has 8 RNA tasks, and can safely handle 9.
But, at 64GB RAM (ordered!!), I'm going to try to get Speed to have 15 RNA tasks!

In case anyone's curious, I'm getting a 4x16GB kit of DDR4 UDIMM from Crucial, and I'm only about 90% sure that it'll work. Speed had a BIOS update recently, and the Area-51 R2 page now has models supporting 64GB, which is why I think this should work :)

In ~10 days, I'll know more!

PS: Speed just knocked out another "easy" one, after 37.8 days of CPU time. So, he's back on the hunt, looking for a 9th task to run concurrently again :) And soon, he'll want 15 hehe.

This is fun [to me]!

Alright... after a full day of troubleshooting and testing, I can safely say that this 64 GB RAM upgrade will work nicely for Speed! I did have a program incompatibility, with Alienware's own Command Center software ironically, so I had to disable that. The full details of my upgrade are here:
http://en.community.dell.com/owners-clu ... 4#20944604

Also, Speed did pick up a 9th concurrent task.

Now that he's got 64 GB RAM, I've instructed him to look for more -- the goal is to get 15! :)

Good times!
