Re: Need more time for a WU
I apologise if this turns out to be a double request but my last post hasn't showed up due to me being new and it needing to be approved. However I'm running out of time, I need 5980902 to be extended please.

Re: Need more time for a WU
Thanks to yoyo and ChristianB for the 3 extensions I've had for this WU, but unfortuneately it crashed and burned after a total running time of 2,171.95 Hours or over 90 days (approximately).Conan hat geschrieben:Can I have another extension (the 3rd) for the following WU please
6258211
Has passed 100% at 1,412 hours and continues to run, now at 1,424 hours and still going.
Thanks
Conan
I went away for the weekend and found that what I believe was another projects work unit (Convector@Home) has caused a Windows error resulting in a Pop-Up Box that needs manual intervention to click OK so things can keep running.
As I was not home I was unable to click OK on the pop-up box and so it held the BOINC lock file in use, meaning that no other project could call on the lock-file.
After some time my BOINC had a fit and did a 'Hot' restart (where BOINC restarts but does not reset the whole programme allowing the client messages to just continue without a break when viewed on the BOINC manager, the computer did not do a reboot, problem totally with BOINC).
RNA World restarted along with all other BOINC project work units I had going at that time.
RNA World then went into a endless loop, exiting the WU saying it had no finish file, then restarting and so on time after time.
This caused the WU to die with Error Message "too many exits".
The loss of over 2,170 hours (over 400 hours first run, over 1,700 hours the second run) really pi??ed me off but finding out that it was not a computer fault but a BOINC issue mad me even more pi??ed.
However I have now calmed down and will get over it.
The loss of all those hours and all those points (I also lost one on another computer after 65 days) is very hard to take. I should have over 500,000 points by now but only have half that.
Disappointed to say the least.
Conan
EDIT::: OK Now I am confused, according to BOINC Manager the above WU died and was reported along with a lot of STDERR Output to say what went wrong. This all happened 2 days ago.
So how come under my Task Manager the RNA World WU is still running (along with the Wrapper) and taking up a full CPU core?
If I let it run what will happen?
It is over 1,792 hours now.
I think I should abort it as the WU is no longer listed on my computer and has been reported, but why do I still have it?
EDIT: EDIT: Well I tried to close down BOINC Manager and restart it to see if it cleared out the RNA World WU still running but this did not work. In fact all work units from other projects as well as RNA World kept running with BOINC closed.
I have not been able to update the computer for 4 months due to the RNA World WU I was running so with it now dead I updated the computer and rebooted.
Everything is now back to 'normal' and that RNA World plus the other running work units all cleaned out and BOINC was running afresh as if nothing had been wrong.
Still mad that I lost a 90 day work unit and get no points for the effort. The fact it reached 100% over 2 weeks ago but had still not finished is a bit irksome.

Please configure your machine to participate in our new VM checkpointing approach to avoid future losses of this kind.

Re: Need more time for a WU
Task http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/result. ... d=14889194 needs another extension. I don't know how much to extend it since it reached "100% progress" at about 1800 hours, and is now still running at about 3000 hours.
