Erm - PrimeGrid?
They're doing something similiar if not the same.

Not to my knowledge: If you do not deliver a Primegrid WU before the deadline indicated in BOINC manager, you won't get a deadline extension for any of the sub-projects.

Yes. It's just that I can't count the number of times we have explained this in multiple forms at diverse places.
But indeed, we could also add it to the FAQ (I actually thought we had done that long back), although to my experience people still would not read that and keep asking in this forum. :D

FAQ's are useful to forum regulars, who can have definitive answers ready to FAQ's ready typed up to cut and paste. They are not much use to end users who rarely visit. What is a FAQ? A FAQ here might be an exotic inquiry elsewhere. If I had come via the front page, I could probably have answered my question without typing anything else, but I didn't, I saw a RARE RNA job running on my machine and used the links available from BOINC Manager to inquire when I saw an apparent problem.

Yes, all fine now: As long as you keep your computer connected to the Internet at least once every two weeks, a deadline extension will be granted. Just remember that, for technical reasons, this deadline cannot be updated in your client. You can, however, see it on your web account for RNA World when inpecting your WUs there. :D

It has been explained on their forums quite a while ago: Click.

TL;DR - Well, we still were first to use it and it also is a bit different as it appears that Primegrid allows only for 4x deadline extension while RNA World has no limit.

Iirc this was about other projects in general, not about inventing the system. ;-)
But it's definately nice to see RNA World being able to come up with new ideas for the platform!

I have a task with an estimated remaining time over 90 days, months beyond the deadline.

http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/result. ... d=14953356

A large number of wingmates, most of which gave Error while computing or Aborted by user, some after millions of CPU seconds.

http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/workuni ... id=6330886

Are you sure this workunit is set up reasonably?

Another task was completed in 2012 but still waiting for validation.

http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/workuni ... id=5986207

Have you stopped increasing the number of allowed failures for this workunit? Does it need a VM wingmate instead of an XXL wingmate?

Every one that I have attempted, was completable, even if the estimates were way off, and the task stays at 98.765% for as long of time as it was a lesser percentage.

My advice: If it is still consuming CPU, and you think it's still running correctly, then let it crunch until it completes successfully. Ignore estimates.

I guess we need to re-send this WU and then it will surely be assigned to a VM. I have informed Christian on this...

[snip]
Progress rate suggests that it will run for about 150 days total.

Size of the *.vdi file may be a problem for users running on an SSD drive.

Having only one *.vdi file (which appears to be the checkpoint file) could make the task fail if some interruption occurs while the next checkpoint is being written. Most BOINC projects keep two checkpoint files, so that their applications can still resume if writing the latest checkpoint file was interrupted and therefore incomplete.

Installing the latest Windows 10 update (Creator's Edition) interferes with reading the *.vdi file, since Windows 10 then claims that no application is listed as able to open *.vdi files. Workaround - tell VirtualBox to ignore this problem when resuming from a checkpoint.
