Some WUs are simply long runners.

Dear Michael,

Indeed, some WU are very long runners. I had some for more then 125 hours of processing.
Is it possibel to have checkpointing availabel? It is now almost impossibel to install a new nvidia-driver or a new boinc-manager, because the RNA-wu's start all over again after re-boot.

Thanks in advance!

rna world has no checkpoints atm.
the rna world team for now is looking for a solution for this ugly situation with longrunners without checkpoints.
only linux-32 bit has CP with freeze installed on system but many big WU needs more RAM then 32-bit systems can handle.
so only "little" WU have a profit.

i need restarts too but i've to wait 11.5 days because the very long cmc intron_qpi WU are running :uhoh:

Incorrect. RNA World so far supports no checkpointing except for Linux x32 (provided that memory randomization is deactived in the kernel; as stated in the FAQ).
Moreover, as explained before, the RNA World team cannot implement checkpointing into third-party software due to manpower limitations / lack of corresponding funding at the present time. On top of that, I have tried to explain that it makes little sense doing anything else regarding checkpointing than seeking to find a UNIVERSAL solution as e.g. in the context of a virtual machine or full memory dump approach. For that, we look for an experienced person that likes to dive into that a project as part of our developer team. :D

I have an RFam5.0full cmcalibrate WU that is at the 4 day mark of an estimated 9.5 - 10 days duration. The one WU that has been completed took 15 days. The estimate for your reference computer is 3+ days.

Is something wrong? Should I complete it?

Please let it finish. The work unit has already been completed by another computer, so there should be nothing wrong with it.

I lost the WU. Comcast reset my internet and all WUs on all computers errored out.

Does anyone know why this would be?

I lost about 120 hours (44% complete) on that one long one.

I am not sure why this happened. However, I noticed that you are running quite an old version of BOINC (6.2.14, most recent stable is 6.10.58). There have been reports of the BOINC manager hanging when internet is not available. I don't know whether this has already been addressed, but I recommend upgrading.

I have 2 work units in progress. One has an estimated 45h to run and the other has 73h before it finishes. They were due back on the 19th Oct. Should I allow these to run?
Thanks,

They are probably of the Intron_gpI type (please check that) and their deadline has been extended. So if that is the case, you may happily keep them running.
