I just had a WU that went for 57 Hrs and erored out
To short hurts your servers and networks
To long and it hurts the members that support you
You need to balance the WU's

Hi,
the long running WU is probably one of an old wu set. Since some weeks we try to avoid generation of such big wus.

...as said before: some WUs of the old, stressful CMS batch are still circulating. One of my machines which is quite well-equipped for example got around 30 tasks only 5 days ago. :o But it seems they all do complete without indications of problems (validation status of course, I have not yet checked). However, the work queue of the server is filled full with good, small, easy to process WUs. And it does not seem to me that the project will run out of work any time soon, anymore... :evil2:

As those old WUs are often hard to "crack", they will be send out again if one of the computing hosts failed to successfully produce the necessary result, which is why there are still quite a few of those "monster WUs" delivered to computers with more than 4GB RAM not only last week but (as for example in my case) just five minutes ago.
As a workaround you can manually cancel the WUs that you do not want to work on or lower the amount of memory that BOINC is allowed to use to stop the server from sending you heavy-duty WUs. ;)

These do not pose much of a problem, even given their comparably longer run time. They will not require excessive RAM and should finish without any problem. :D

31 hours 28%
31.5 hours 4%
41.5 hours 17%

Work unit appears to have reset itself, the estimated run time has changed from 110 hours to 244 hours.

I will post the link when it finishes.

Well, that is not a reset but just recalculation of the remaining run time estimate which may have a number of (rather harmless) reasons. Which WU is it?
