The new deadline on project side is not transferred to the BOINC client on your host, so your host will still "think" that it is past the deadline - but the RNA server has the effective value, as long as that has not timed out, you're in.

The RNA workunits have no checkpoints, so if you suspend, make sure that you have this setting : Leave applications in memory while suspended? yes

The estimated runtime on your BOINC clients is in CPU hours, independant from the daily uptime. So if you have it running 10h/day, divide the remaining hours by 10 and you'll have your effective remaining days.

p.s.: If you shutdown your computer at night (during the non-working hours), you should probably abort that workunit (as it does not save work and thus doesn't resume properly in the morning) and go for smaller workunits from now on.

This can be choosen in the project settings : cmsearch XXL: no

If I understand that right, this "9-22" is the deadline. and the 100 days are the estimated runtime.

Post the workunit ID here and Yoyo will enhance the deadline so you will have your 100 days. The workunit ID can be found in your task list and in the task list of your host, both linked from your home page on the RNA world project server.

p.s.: I have such a fish too (Intron), 68 days already done, result at only 41% and still running (deadline already enhanced). If you manage to bring it through, it willl give you tons of credits :-) Yoyo installed a bonus system to encourage people to try to finish especially this nasty type of results.
Hi. You're correct, and thanks a lot! WU ID is 6039131. I see it has lots of errors, timeouts and abortions! I don't want to abort it nor to end in an error, but to finish it correctly, help the project, and get my bonus :)

BTW, I have suspended for the moment. I guess I need to resume it, and do a manual Update on the project to get the new ETA, right? Or will the task automagically updated the ETA (in next checkpoint or communication with project server?)

Regards,

Leo

Leo
The updated deadline will NOT show on your computer. You will have to look on the website to see it.

too bad.. I think it should reflect on my computer, by just doing an Update on the project.

Anyway, I still see deadline of "23 Sep 2012 3:52:05 UTC". How long does it take to reflect the change to the new ETA?

Leo

Yoyo does this by hand, so he needs to visit the forum and see your request to enhance the deadline for 6039131

And again: The new deadline for that WU, once Yoyo has extended it, will NOT be seen in your local BOINC manager but will show up instead on the RNA World website project settings in your account.

Thanks Yoyo,

I see a new deadline for "23 Oct 2012 3:52:05 UTC". However, this hardly fits with the 2300+ hours I initially reported (please see my previous posts). I just resumed it, and new ETA is 2333:23:54 so it's about 100 non-stop days but since I use boinc at work, 9 hours a day aprox., 5 days a week, this is about 300 calendar days.

BTW, there is another boinc project which has multi-threaded applications, so it can run in parallel various parts of the WU. In my case, I have a 4 core CPU, 3 of them for Boinc, so that project finishes in 1/3 of the time. Is something like these possible with this project/application?

Regards,

Leo

Yes. Technically, even our current version supports MT. The problem however lies in the way the developers have designed the software. A random number is generated during processing in MT mode which does not allow WU validation between two different machines. That is why MT is currently disabled. We have communicated this (and a number of other issues and useful improvements) to the developers a long time ago and they have recently modified their code such that the new version won' t have this problem anymore.
Consequently, as soon as we migrate to the new version, we will have MT applications enabled (provided we do not identify an additional although as of yet unexpected problem in the new code).

Michael.

P.S.: If you have runtimes >300 days as a result of processing only a fraction of a day's time, you should disable XXL WUs in general.

OK here is another long w/u. My computer is running 24/7 at about 3.6GH It's estimating 128 days to complete. If you want me to run it to completion the report date needs to be extended

Mis-information on prior post. The computer running the long w/u has an Intel quad core extreme QX6700 operating at 2.66GHz.
