BOINC is a finalist for an notable award, and needs your vote (*by Sunday)

#1 Ungelesener Beitrag von Alex » 25.03.2024 21:03

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a United Nations-sponsored initiative aimed at harnessing the potential of information and communication technologies to build inclusive and equitable information societies worldwide. BOINC has been nominated for a prize at the 2024 forum, and has passed initial hurdles; the next and last step ("Phase 3") requires public votes. The award would be a very nice boost and validation for BOINC and all our projects; if we can get our communities to vote, we should have a decent shot at this point...

Voting is pretty simple, takes just a few minutes; instructions are here.

(*The deadline for votes is Sunday: 31 March 2024, 23:00 UTC+02:00)

Nice.
Thanks.
But no registration without Google.
Not so nice.
No thanks, WSIS.

You don't need Google, but you do need to register with an email address.

WSIS PRIZES 2024

BOINC has been nominated for a prize at the 2024 forum, and has passed initial hurdles; the next and last step ("Phase 3") requires public votes. – Volunteer voting for volunteer computing :)

Instructional Video is here.

Steps to Vote
Go to WSIS Prizes 2024 – and click “Vote”
…this will scroll the page down to the “Phase 3: Voting Phase” section; click “Vote” again here.
On the resulting login page, click “Register as a New User”
Go to the email you used in registration; look for an email with the subject line “Confirm your WSIS account” (from WSIS-confirmation@bb.itu.int). → Click the button in that email to “Confirm Registration”
On the resulting webpage, click to return to the login form
On the login form, login
On the page shown after login, click “Voting Form”
In the voting form, at top of the form, there is a grey box which is a dropdown menu; click and select category “AL C7. E-Science”. (*Note: you may need to scroll the list to see this option. Also note: there are several “AL C7” topics; we are in “AL C7 E-Science”)
After selecting the category, scroll down to find “Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing”
Click “Vote for this Project” (N.b. there doesn’t seem to be any confirmation; you are just returned to the form to browse/select projects in other categories and category. But: you should see that “AL C7. E-Science” is no longer available in the dropdown menu. And you can see your votes here.)

The page needs Google scripts to work.
In my browser those are locked by default, so the page doesn't work by default.
Once again: no thanks, WSIS.

...means what?
Registering without Google account is possible.

I voted for BOINC.
