ECM - huge task duration

Hello there,

since I´m quite new to this project, first of I want to greet everyone and say hello to the whole community
I´ve done a couple of workunits in the past days, most ecm and some for the sievert subproject. One thing I noticed regarding the ecm tasks is, they seem to get bigger and bigger over time. Each following new batch of workunits was slightly larger than the previous. So far so good, not bothering... But the last ones I received are really huge in comparison, I mean significantly larger, lasting at least 100 hours til completion. So I´m just wondering myself if this is intended or if something has gone wrong. I´m not going to abord them (yet), if everything is fine I think I could them finished barely in time. Here is one of those:

Hello,
the ecm workunits are for different math projects, factoring different kind of numbers. So in your example the workunit is from the cn (cunningham numbers). Depending on the predicted computation time, the workunits are assigned to different yafu applications, e.g. yafu-8t needs at least 8 cores and gets workunits which needs more computation power than the yafu-4t (4 cores) app.
At the end sometimes are workunits longer and sometimes they are shorter.

Thanks for your response, yes, I got smaller ecm tasks aswell by now. Everything fine, I also found the ecm project description site which shows different estimated runtimes dependending on math problem.

Hi Yoyo,
The latest ECM WU's require the same amount of RAM (10GB) as ECM P2 WU's.
Maybe a cross-reference has been corrupted.

I couldn't get any - I only have 8GB !
The error has been fixed now.

I think this was a bug in the workunit generator who estimates to much memory for workunits, in this case P1 workunits.
I fixed it and changed memory requirements for those unsent workunits.
So it should be better now.

Im getting ECM- Fatal Error with computer crashes. What can i do?

I think the deadline for those huge tasks is much too short, when i get them they show a estimated computaion time of around 30 days but the deadline is only some days.

Also on a side note: It seems some of the ecm task don't checkpoint too well over the last months, i had it several times where tasks where well beyond 20% and after a BOINC client or PC restart they started from 0%. Is the maybe a problem on my side or is the programm misbehaving?

tasks...anybody else have issues with this also?
