ECM & Cruncher Running But No Progress

I notice that ECM and some Cruncher units show no progress whatsoever despite having been running for hours. Is that considered normal?

If so then the deadlines are hopelessly short for anyone running a machine in the normal manner, i.e. on during the day and off at night.

Let them run at least 10h and they should show some progress.
There are workunits around which runs for 8h until they show some progress.
