I Need Advice on Efficient BOINC Projects for Maximizing CPU Performance

#1 Ungelesener Beitrag von chrismartin » 16.10.2024 11:07

Hello there,

I am new to distributed computing and recently got involved with BOINC. I have been exploring various projects but wanted to get some advice from more experienced participants in this community.

I am primarily running BOINC on a high-performance machine with multiple CPU cores. While I have looked into a few projects like Rosetta@home and World Community Grid; I would like to know which BOINC projects are currently considered efficient for maximizing CPU performance. Ideally; I am looking for projects that are well-optimized for multicore CPUs and utilize them to their full potential without causing excessive strain or overheating.

Projects that are scientifically impactful e.g., related to medicine; environmental research; or basic science. Work units that have reasonable completion times; as I would like to avoid projects that take days to finish.

Additionally; I would love to hear about any tips or configurations you might recommend for BOINC to help distribute work efficiently across multiple CPU cores. I have been tweaking the settings; but I am not sure if I have hit the optimal setup yet.

Also; I have gone through this post; viewtopic.php?=18169 which definitely helped me out a lot.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.

Server mainboard?
Which OS?
AMD or Intel?
Zusammenkommen ist ein Beginn, Zusammenbleiben ist ein Fortschritt, Zusammenarbeiten ist ein Erfolg.

Hello chrismartin,
For projects with scientific impact and optimized work units, I recommend:

SETI@home (if available): Uses multicore CPUs efficiently.
RosettaEscape Road@home: Well-suited for biomedical discoveries.
MilkyWay@home: Excellent for astrophysical simulations and doesn’t stress your hardware too much.
