Dear Michael H.W. Weber,
We are currently testing new Homogeneous Redundancy algorithms, which would be much easier if everybody attached to D@H would be running the latest BOINC client (5.8.15 for Windows and Mac, 5.8.17 for Linux). The reason for this is that in these versions the client reports the Family, Model and Stepping number of AMD and Intel processors (previous version do not). This makes the amount of cpu models to filter on much less.
Therefore we would like to request if you could update to this latest boinc client version. Please let us now if you can or if there is a reason you cannot. It would help us greatly in our testing.
The BOINC clients can be downloaded from the BOINC web site at:
Linux: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.8.17_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
Windows: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.8.15_windows_intelx86.exe
Mac: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.8.15_macOSX_universal.zip
We realize that Linux client 5.8.17 is beta as of now, but it should work fine (the benchmarks have been reported to be much better too!). If you want to wait for the official release of the Linux client, we understand that and hope you will upgrade when it comes out.
Thanks
The D@H Team

Dear Michael H.W. Weber
One of our volunteers forwarded us some information regarding the boinc client 5.8.17. It seems that this version requires version 2.4 of a system library (glibc) and that most distros out there use 2.3. This will cause 5.8.17 not to work on such a 2.3 system.
Please wait until the official Linux version is released that will work on all platforms. Sorry for the inconvenience that this might have caused.
Thanks
The D@H Team
