Michael.
Hier zum Abschluss noch unser Bewerbungsschreiben:
Dear David,
Dear Kevin,
dear BOINC community,
the German distributed computing organization Rechenkraft.net would like to offer to host the Pangalactic BOINC Workshop 2020 in Marburg / Germany (possibly together with the Philipps-University of Marburg, depending on the formal room rental conditions):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marburg
We aim at renting rooms in the new University library, which is a newly build and therefore very modern 120 M€ building beautifully located directly at the entrance to the old botanical garden at the foot of Marburg's old town and castle hill:
https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/ub/ueber- ... bibliothek
Our problem at present: We will know only in about 2-3 weeks from now whether we will get the required rooms because the person in charge for rentals is currently on a business trip. Plans are to acquire a larger lecture hall for around 40-60 people for the talk sessions plus a few smaller rooms for the hackathon/workshop/breakout session day.
Some of us (Uwe (aka Yoyo) Beckert, Christian Beer & myself) have participated in several of the previous BOINC workshops organized since 2009, so I think we know what people expect.
So far, the BOINC workshops have been hosted by some of the BOINC project teams. This time we would like to host it as a part of the BOINC volunteers community.
Marburg is a beautiful location for such an event, especially in summer. It is reachable from Frankfurt airport in only about 1 hr by train or car to the north and it is home to the world's first (protestant) university and a very pleasant old town and castle at the top of a hill lining the Lahn river. There is plenty of nice, affordable gastronomy around incl. beer gardens, restaurants an so forth.

Within the library there is even a modern café where coffee, other beverages, sandwiches, etc. can be purchased. The university's mensa is also in walkable distance, similar to a number of restaurants, other food places ranging from hot dog huts to pizza, hotels and the University guest house.
The university has a fast broadband connection, so we expect that live streaming should also not be a problem (will test beforehand, of course).
If desired, it should also be possible to offer a small selection of recreational activities on the day after the workshop sessions.
Please let us know if there is an interest in having us host the event in 2020,
best regards,
Michael.
