Zur Performance nach dem Patch:

Your game will be mostly talking to the graphics processor.
If all you do is browse Twitter, write emails, and type away in a word processor, you probably won't notice any difference. If you do a lot of in-memory number crunching, you won't see much of an impact because again the kernel isn't getting in the way. If you have PCID support enabled on your hardware and in your kernel, any performance hit should be minimized.
If you hammer the disk, the network, or use software that makes lots of system calls in and out of the kernel, and you're lacking working PCID support, you will see a performance hit. And it's a good idea to warn you, right? [...]

Für mich heißt das, daß ich vermutlich wenig merken werde, weil ich meine nicht patch-fähigen, älteren Intel-Macs nicht mehr zum Browsen verwenden werde, und deren Netzwerkleistung als Server, um die es bei mir hauptsächlich geht, sich nicht verändern wird.
Das Crunchen sollte auch kaum betroffen sein, wenn ich das richtig sehe.
Interessanter wird für mich die Frage, ob ich meine MacBooks auf High Sierra updaten muß, um in den Genuß eines Patches zu kommen, und ob danach die W-LAN Hardware weiter funktionieren wird. Sollte das nicht der Fall sein, müßte ich mir überlegen, ob ich mir irgendwie aktuellere Hardware leisten kann (was bei mir ein riesiges finanzielles Loch ins Konto risse), externes W-LAN nutzen möchte, oder ob ich die MacBooks auf Linux umstelle. Alles Optionen, die mir nicht gefallen...
Daß Apple Patches für ältere Systeme herausgibt, kann ich mir absolut nicht vorstellen, wobei ich aus Anwendersicht 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 und 10.7 für sinnvoll hielte. Wenn PPCs nicht betroffen sein sollten, was nicht unmöglich ist, fielen die beiden erstgenannten weg. Aus Herstellersicht würde 10.6 vermutlich nicht beachtet, obwohl es das letzte OS ist, daß die PPC- und Intel-Welt zusammenführt, und 10.7 ist auch nur das letzte OS für eine Reihe von älteren Geräten und somit eher völlig egal.
Aber erstmal abwarten, was da noch kommt.
