No Workunit Progress

#1 Ungelesener Beitrag von sslickerson » 15.01.2008 04:03

Every YoYo workunit over the past 4 or 5 has not run on my PS3. It counts up in time but shows 0.00% progress over the entire runtime. I then need to Kill the WU as it is doing no work and taking up valuable resources. I have tried to restart the PS3, reset the project, download new work, etc but none of these have helped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello,
there is no progress shown on PS3. The progress is always 0%. But the wu is crunching. The wus are currently very long and can take also on a PS3 up to 7h. Since it is a Linux on PS3 you should see with top the the wu is running and consuming CPU.

OK, I had a workunit last over 16 hours so I was worried and at the same time the PS3 was silent, usually the fan is running part of the time. I'm not too familiar with Linux so how to I "see" if the Workunit is using CPU? something like windows task manager...

I'm not familiar with the PS3, but under all versions of Linux i know, the following works:
- open a command prompt (usually called "terminal", "shell" or "bash")
- enter "top"
You should get a detailed list of running programs, threads, memory and cpu usage.

Hello again,

A quick update. My current YoYo WU has now been running for 24 hours on a PS3 which is nearly 4 times your estimate. Is this still considered normal? I would hate to be wasting so many cycles if not.

Thanks!

Can you post the boinc message log and the output of the top command?

The message log shows nothing out of ordinary. I am running PS3 Grid also on their USB Build. I was thinking I might try to install linux on the HDD and see if this helps.

As I said before my knowledge of linux is minimal but when I look at the top command I see 3 processes of the Crunch_1.01 (each about 33% CPU) and one of Crunch 1.02 (about 97% CPU). Everything else takes a few cycles every once in awhile. I don't know how to get a log though, so let me know how to do it if you want that

Hi,
I do not have a PS3. But my understanding would be that there should be only one Cruncher running, not 3 in parallel. This one which runs than internally uses all 7 processors. There should be the possibility to open a terminal or shell on the PS3, as usual under Linux. Open it and enter "top" and paste the output. And aso the boinc message log would be interesting.

The duration of an OGR-wu is not predictable - current wus last up to 40 hours, so everything's ok :)

Okay, I was just wondering because from looking at other PS3's that have run WU's about 6 or 7 hr's was the longest one's I seen.

Die top-Ausgabe sollte in etwa so aussehen, wichtig ist, dass im BOINC-Manager nur eine WU läuft.

BTW meine WU's haben auch recht unterschiedliche Laufzeiten.

Gruß,
