muon 1.07
Re: muon 1.07
Regarding the deadline for muon I'm a bit in a conflict.
With muon you design a part of an particle accelerator. All designs are returned to the project. From these the best ones and some random are chosen and used for the next design round as new input and so on. So the best is to return muon wus very fast back to the server. On the other hand for the user it is better to have long deadlines (e.g. 2 weeks). But very often than the wus are downloaded and just in the boinc buffer and not started. After one week they are started. But than there are already better inputs which should be used and the wu which is now started is based on very old outdated inputs and the result is not so good as it could.
The current deadline is a compromise of both.

Re: muon 1.07
Thank you for the explanation on the muon deadlines. And the prompt response.

Re: muon 1.07
What happened yesterday in Muon? I had WUs with ~30 hours crunched "Cancelled by server"? Here's some examples:

Hopefully this isn't going to keep happening.

Re: muon 1.07
This is really strang, I do not know why the Boinc server canceled these wus and afterwards resent them. I talked with some Boinc developers which also have no answer for it. I only canceled some buggy ogr wus, but no muon wus.

Have you changed server versions lately?
Re: muon 1.07
I didn't change the server version for more than 12 month.Beyond hat geschrieben:Have you changed server versions lately?

Re: muon 1.07
Now this is what I call a wu:
http://www.rechenkraft.net/yoyo/workuni ... id=2214891
48,639,844.91 credits in 5.5 hours. I think there may be a bug in the credit awarding system...

Re: muon 1.07
The Muons I received lately have a very short runtime (5-7 min.), this might become a cache problem when the BOINC clients adjust their DCF and suddenly a batch with long runtimes appears.

Re: muon 1.07
There are now 2 new disigns which are optimzed by Muon. It is not unusal, that in the first runs the runtime is very short. I'm still not able to predict the runtime and therefore it might be a problem with DCF.
I need a feature in Boinc to abort not yet started WUs if the deadline has passed. But this feature is still not on there todo list.

Re: muon 1.07
You're right, they rather add useless stuff instead of dealing with the required enhancements.
But there's hope : http://code.google.com/p/synecdoche/

Project owners are knowledgeable (sp?) guys, so that's sure not a soap bubble.* Remain compatible with BOINC
* Provide better usability
* Work on bugs and features ignored by BOINC
* Maintain stable releases

Re: muon 1.07
Meanwhile I have seen this with actual clients (6.10.xx). My queue (Virtual Prairie) was filled up too much and the client itself cancelled all WUs that had not been started after the deadline had been missed.yoyo hat geschrieben:I need a feature in Boinc to abort not yet started WUs if the deadline has passed. Supporting BOINC, a great concept !
