Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr!
OK, that's the important bit, now the trivial part. I have a couple of ECM WU with an anticipated runtime of ten days, but a deadline of 30th December. These will never even get half way through. Can you reset the deadline or should I abort them?

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
I think Boincs runtime estimation is wrong.
Please check the duration correction factor in Boinc (select the project, property button and a box which also contains the duration correction factor).

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
OK, it gives 1.5370, does that sound about right for a 4770s at 3.9GHz?

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Cann you give me a link to this workunit? In this cas I can compare it with other computer who had the same.
Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Best I can do is two cropped screenshots, see attached. If you know a better way, please tell me how!
Thanks.

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Usually they need less than 5 hours to complete. Most finish in less than 2 hours.
Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
I think you must be right, there's certainly something odd about these. I will keep an eye on their progress.
Thanks for the information.

Same Problem,
4 P2-WUs 7% complete all running 4,5 hours. Deadline 2.1.17 7:40
on a Skylake i7-6700K @ 4,2 GHz with HT

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
Those e25*P2 workunits are currently the leading edge of our ecm trial factorization. Therefore I deployed a new Windows app (version 705.02) last night. They need 10 GB of RAM. The once which finished were running 10-20 hours.
Some of them crash. I assume because lack of memory. You system should be configured with sufficient swap space.

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
is the percent-value of the WU false? Cause the WUs running 9 hours with 14,6% completion. I have 32 GB of RAM (26 GB used, and no significant Swaping (1% SSD activity)), the WUs runs currently with 2.5 GB. But there running also 4 LHC@Home WUs with a VM. Before clothing some Applications one ECM-WU couldn't start.
Is there a way to limit the P2-WUs? Two days before my PC got only one P2 and many other ECM-WUs but now 4 P2s.

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
The percent-value is not computed by the app. This percentage is computed by boinc by some artificial intelligence and some assumptions which might be wrong.
Also the memory handling and decission to start a ecm wu is done by boinc based on wu requirements (they require 10 GB) and free memory. That ECM-WU doesn't start is ok. Boinc assumes that there is not enough free memory. Insteaad other wus should run.

Re: Long runtime ECM WU with short deadlines
but when the WUs need 10 GB, how could BOINC start four of them while running 4 other VM-WUs? At the moment they need 2.5 GB and it is OK, but if they want 10 GB later, Windows would swap 30 GB of Memory?
