Hi all,
When I crunch evolution and muon tasks (I haven't opted in on the OGR project), I never can finish the large ones. Every time they restart, they start from the beginning again. I've set the crunch time to 2 hours, and even though most of the time they take longer to stop by themselves (switch to another project in Boinc), still it doesn't work out. I can only crunch tasks of about 6 hours and shorter this way. I've been trying to crunch larger tasks already many times, but they just never work out so unfortunately nowadays I have to abort them even before they start, otherwise I just loose (waste) too much time.
Is this a known problem and is there a solution for this problem? I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks,
Bart

Re: How to crunch large tasks?
I think, that is because these applications do not support checkpoints. Go to the preferences of your BOINC-manager and try enabling the "leave applications in memory while suspended" option - that should fix the problem as long as you don't turn off your computer.

Re: How to crunch large tasks?
Only evolution@home does not have checkpoints. The other 2 (muon, ogr) have checkpoints and will continue there work.

Re: How to crunch large tasks?
It could well be the moun tasks don't give many problems. I don't get many of them, and I don't think most of them are that long either.
But when I leave the applications in memory, doesn't that use memory that otherwise could be used for crunching? I crunch at least 6 other projects on that computer (dependent of how much work the others have), and when they all stay in memory, it's going to add up I suppose. I don't know much about computers, so when I'm wrong about that, please tell me.
And will there ever be checkpoints in the evolution tasks, so this problem will be dealt with, or it it just not possible?
Regards,
Bart

Re: How to crunch large tasks?
Still no checkpoints for evolution ?
Occasionally, I get the following -
No heartbeat from core client for 30 sec - exiting
wrapper: starting
wrapper: delete file ' IntermediateResult'
wrapper: delete file 'position_in_run_file.txt'
running S005r6gSimulatorWin32.exe
so it's back to the beginning :(

Yes, still no checkpoints for evolution@home.
