Hello!
Work is progressing on the Nano-Hive Nanospace Simulator version 1.2.0, which, in addition to many other improvements, enables Nano-Hive to distribute the computation of simulations across computer networks. We're shooting to get a beta version out the door by year's end.
An alpha version of the distributed computing Nano-Hive is running at the Computational BioNano Robotics Lab (http://www.bionano.neu.edu/) at Northeastern University in Boston. Researchers there are using it to simulate nanotube systems. Thanks to them we're able to test on a real compute cluster.
This video (http://www.nano-hive.org/videos/dc-cnt1.mpg [2.61 Mb]) is the result of a simulation designed to test various distributed computing mechanisms. While just a test, it's still an interesting simulation to watch. Three carbon nanotubes are anchored at their ends, and a diamondoid carbon "knife" is pushed down on the nanotubes with a 5 nanonewton force. Will the knife cut through the nanotubes? Watch the video for some nanotube-fu.

Thank-you,
--Brian.

Michael.
Code: Alles auswählen
Hi Michael,
Yes, I'm familiar with RKN. I try to follow in the forums when there's a
Nano-Hive post. Thank you very much for offering to test the client.
We're going to do a BOINC client as soon as we get a chance now that N-H
1.2 is looking relatively stable. This will happen probably early next year.
We'd definitely like to have a "friendly" environment to test in. What
platform do most of your team run? (ie, Windows, SuSE, BSD, MacOS, etc)
While N-H is cross-platform, we usually develop/release on one platform
first, then tidy it up for the cross-platform release. We'll do the
first BOINC client in your most popular platform so the most machines
can use it.
Best regards,
--Brian.

Dear Brian,
our community uses Windows, Linux, MacOS, and - although I will have to
check this out in some more detail - some might also use BSD as well as
other OS such as Solaris and IRIX. Most widely used is surely Windows
followed by Linux, however. Just let us know in time if you are in need of
some software testers - we are looking forward to help you. ;-)
All the best,
Michael.

NEUE NEWS VON NANO
Hello!
Nano-Hive version 1.2.0 Beta 1 for Unix derivatives is now available for download. The build/install mechanism has been revamped to make it more flexible and straight forward. We've also added a Supporting Libraries Build and Installation Notes page to help build the required 3rd party libraries.
We're also announcing the Nano-Hive@Home project. Nano-Hive@Home is a distributed computing system used to simulate large-scale nanotech systems that draws its computing power from otherwise idle computers sitting in people's homes. Users download and install a special client onto their computer, and when the computer's screensaver comes on, the client requests some work from a Nano-Hive@Home server, calculates it with the Nano-Hive simulator, then sends the results back to the server.
Nano-Hive@Home is free and open-source. It is still in developement and the target for the client is Q2 2006. The project home page (http://www.nano-hive.org/atHome/) has a short FAQ to help answer some of the questions raised.
Visit http://www.nano-hive.org/ to learn more. Nano-Hive's open source development and distributions are hosted at http://sourceforge.net/projects/nano-hive/

Und noch was Neues von Nano-Hive. Kam heute per Mail bei mir rein:
Code: Alles auswählen
Hello!
Nano-Hive@Home's new website is now open ( http://www.nano-hive.org/atHome/ ), providing more information about the project and forums for discussion. The Nano-Hive@Home client software is in beta testing with a small group of testers. Open enrollment for beta testing is expected to begin within weeks.
Nano-Hive@Home is a distributed computing system used to simulate large-scale nanotech systems that draws its computing power from otherwise idle computers sitting in people's homes. Users download and install a special client program onto their computer, and when the computer's screensaver comes on, the client program requests some work from a Nano-Hive@Home server, calculates it with the Nano-Hive simulator, then sends the results back to the server.
The goal of Nano-Hive@Home is to accurately simulate nanosystems too large to be calculated via normal means, and thereby enable further scientific study in the field of nanotechnology.

Und gleich noch ein Newsletter:
Hello,
There's exciting news - Nanorex, Inc., a developer of computational modeling tools made specifically for the design and analysis of productive nanosystems, has acquired Nano-Hive, LLC. The original mission of Nano-Hive, to provide the best open-source nanospace simulator possible, remains the same under Nanorex, Nano-Hive is renamed to NanoHive-1 for consistency with the rest of the Nanorex product names. The original mission of Nano-Hive@Home, a not-for-profit project that makes all results made available to the public domain, free and clear, also remains the same under Nanorex. Nano-Hive@Home is renamed to NanoHive@Home.
More details about the acquisition are available in the press release here: http://www.nanoengineer-1.com/nh1/NHacquisition.html
NanoHive@Home Update:
Closed beta testing of NanoHive@Home by a small team of BOINC experts continues. Open enrollment for beta testing will this month.
