"Do not worry though we will have a Phase II of this project that will have more workunits available in the future"

Re: AfricanClimate@home
AfricanClimate@home Status-Report vom 29.10.2008!
1) Data Analysis:
The stage of data analysis could be initiated after all the data was transfered
from IBM servers to UCT. The work units outputs from African Climate @
Home contains 3-hourly data of several meteorological variables like 2m air
temperature and energy surface fluxes (latent and sensible heat). The
temporal resolution of this data allows a good representation of the diurnal
cycle of these variables. The initial analysis focus on the sensitivity of WRF
model diurnal cycle simulation to the vegetation/soil parameters perturbed in
the experiments.
The results so far show sensitivity to Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Stomatal
resistance(RS) (figures 1 and 2). These preliminary results indicate that the
moisture fluxes may be the most parameter-dependent on Southern Africa.
Future analysis of Rainfall sensitivity will provide better information on how
these parameters can affect precipitation results.
2) Observations
Some of the files appear to be corrupted, which may have happened during
the transfers to UCT servers. Viktors Berstis is taking care of the resubmission
of the files and that will not represent any problems for the future
analysis
