project's redundant calculation policy: To our point of view it is an
enormous waste of electricity to just redundantly compute the same work
units because one does not trust upload capacities of the volunteers.
Why not split the 100 MB results in small 5 MB packets and upload these
sequentially? Compression and checksumming allows for simple and
reliable reconstruction of the entire result data set on the server
side. A new work unit can even be processed while remaining chunks of
previous results are being transferred. You may also consider giving a
special extra file transfer credit to encourage people's participation.
Just some ideas...

I will pass along your comments on the AfricanClimate@Home redundancy project to the team. Everyone is heads down right now getting ready for the launch of our next cancer project.

Michael H.W.

Michael H.W. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forum ... ost=127181Greetings,
The latest version is 5.12. The error work units are getting pushed through with the latest version and are completing properly. Members should start to see inconclusive results turning into valid or invalid. Also, the next batch of work units will probably be out later this week. Remember at most there will be 820 work units running for this project at one time. This is why machines are getting other work when all work is already sent out.

Will irgendjemand anstatt von mir dies ins Deutsch übersetzen?New!! Status Update: March 2008
Dear WCG members,
AfricanClimate@Home has been running successfully for six months on world community grid since the Technical Launch last year. We at University of Cape Town would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this project.
Initial results have already been received by the UCT team of scientists. In the ongoing first phase, 82 one-year simulations are being performed and 30% of the output (112 out of 378 days) is already available for analysis. The primary concern at this stage is to guarantee that the results received are coherent. Sometimes, when working with climate models, we face some inconsistencies in the output that may require us to change a few parameters in the model and rerun it. Fortunately, the data received so far do not show any of these problems.
Figure 1 shows a kind of output plot we use in visual analysis of the data. In this example, we see the precipitation simulated for the 14 initial days of the run. The amount of precipitation and its spatial distribution over the domain show good correlation with observed values. We also make use of specialized statistical methods in analyzing received data.
Figure 1 - Precipitation (mm) simulated for first 14 days
We will continue receive results from your work units through IBM and as soon as we have all 82 simulation sets we will proceed with a thorough analysis. As phase I of AfricanClimate@Home deals mainly with land surface processes, we will pay special attention to land and soil parameters and their relation to atmospheric variables (like temperature and wind patterns).
Once again, the UCT team would like to thank all World Community Grid members supporting this research. Your precious CPU hours continue to be of great value in contributing to the better understanding of Climate Change impacts on the African Continent.

Ich hab mich mal dran versuchtLiebe WCG Mitglieder,
AfricanClimate@Home läuft jetzt seit 6 Monaten erfolgreich.
