What is Evolution@home GUI?  (back to top)

The Evolution@home GUI (Graphical User Interface) is a self-programmed Tool, which can help working with the Evolution@home-client.

 The Evolution@home GUI can show you, how far a simulation is done and when it will aproximatly will be done.

You also can change some configuration, so the GUI works like you want he has to.

Additional Information for use and more (txt from GUI Helpfile)  (back to top)

The following text you can also find in the "readme.txt" of the GUI.

1. Introduction
================

  First of all I want to thank you, that you have decided to test this GUI, so i can fix some bugs
  which I have not noticed.

  The Evolution@home GUI is at the moment only a beta version. If you want that the GUI works without
  problems, read the following lines carefully.

2. Install/Configuration:
==========================

  1. Move the File evoGUI.exe into your Evolution@Home-folder.

  2. Start the GUI and click on "Config". If the Evolution@Home-client isn't running, you could change
     here all you need

3. How to Use:
===============
 Main-Screen:
  - After you have done the above steps you can start the GUI whenever you want (even if the
    Evolution@home-client already runs)

  - It takes 3-7 seconds until the GUI noticed that the Evolution@home-client is running. So don't
    wonder about the "not running"... it will change ;>

  - If the Evolution@home-client does not run you can click on "Start Client". If you do this, the
    Evolution@home-client will start (what else? ;>). The GUI will need 4-7 seconds here, too ;>.

  - If you click on "?" this document will be opened.

  - If you click on "Config" a new screen apears. All changes you make here will only take affect
    if you restart the Evolution@home-client (except "Client Appearance"). While the Evolution@home-client
    runs, you can't save the changes in this menu.

  - If the Evolution@home-client runs you can click on "Write break.txt". The GUI creates a break.txt
    in the Evolution@home-folder. The client-window will show the all known "User-Interface". I think
    you know this screen. (I think you should press "8", so the client finish his current simulation before
    he stops.)

  - If you click on "Close GUI" the GUI will be shut down (not the client! It will continue work)

 Config-Screen:
  - You can save your Changes only if the Evolution@home-client doesn't run

  - The number in the "Refresh Interval" is used bye the client for writing the eProgress.txt and by the
    GUI for Refreshing its stats. I would say a number between 60-120 is enough.

  - If "Convert completed run-file to new run.txt" is checked, the GUI will (when he noticed that a
    "completed_run_file.txt" is in the folder) delete the completed run file, creates a new run.txt
    with the same content and starts the Evolution@home-client. Else the GUI will do nothing.

  - If "Show extra Output with Special Statistics" is checked, you can see some further information,
    what the Evolution@home-client does (Population-Size etc.). If you want to see this, you should set
    the Refresh Interval to 60-120.

  - Client Appearance can toggle Visibility of the Evolution@home-client. Use it if you want ;>

4. Known Bugs:
===============

  - It may happen, that sometimes (when the client runs) the statistics changes to "not running / no
    new output". If this happen, the Evolution@home-client hasn't produced any Output, and this means
    that you should set an higher "Refresh-Interval"

5. Things you should not try:
==============================

  - I think there is only one thing that you should not try... run more than one instance of the
    Evolution@home-client. It could create some really bad bugs (and believe me, you don't want to
    see them ;>).

6. Next Updates:
=================

  Now a small list of the things I plan to build in in the next version.
  - Configuration Menu
    -> A way to change Priority (is it needed?)
  - lesser bugs ;> (if there are any)
  - compatible to nearly all systems... (i hope i can make it ;>)
